Arly Ortiz, 19, of Lexington, formally a student at UNK, died on Monday, Aug. 23, 2023, due to being mauled by a pack of dogs. Arly was born on Dec. 27, 2003, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Being the youngest in her family. She loved being outdoors and going on adventures with her friends and family. She loved longboarding, going tubing and have cookouts. Arly especially loved being around her girlfriend Izzy and taking her dog, Cardi, out for walks.

During her high school years, Arly was involved in numerous school activities, such as being a part of the ninth and 10th grade varsity volleyball team, while also participating in band the same years. The activity Arly loved the most was soccer. Being on the varsity soccer team from ninth to 12th grade and becoming captain of the team during her junior and senior years. Arly graduated from Lexington High School on May 15, 2022.

After graduation, Arly continued her education to UNK in order to pursue a degree in public relations. She became a member of the Thompson Scholars Learning Community, which helped encourage her to make new friends and become a better leader. She also continued her soccer career by becoming a coach for Lexington’s Unidos Por El Fútbol soccer club.

Arly is survived by: her parents, Gloria and Rony Ortiz from Guatemala, and her older siblings, Shirley Jimenez and Milthon Castaneda of Lexington. Services will be held at Reynolds-love Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Friday, where Arly’s cremation will take place. For her memorials, Arly wished instead of flowers, for guests to make donations towards any soccer foundations in need.
